Scrapping of old vehicles is encouraged in Türkiye. The taxpayer who surrenders his vehicle 20 years or older to scrap will benefit from the SCT discount on the purchase of a new vehicle.
Conditions
- The vehicle must be 20+ years old
- The traffic clearance certificate is valid
- There is no lien/lien on it
- MTV debt none
Process
- Take the vehicle you want to scrap to the authorized facility
- Get a scrap certificate
- Delete registration at the traffic registration office
- SCT discount request form when purchasing a new vehicle
- Discount is applied
Discount Amount
Updated annually, varies depending on the engine volume of the new vehicle. Generally in the range of 10,000-50,000 TL.
MTV Offset
- The remaining MTV from the scrapped vehicle is refunded
- Debts accrued but unpaid during the year are erased
Supreme Court/Council Approach
The Council of State, scrapping It interprets the "apply within a reasonable time" requirement flexibly due to the vehicle being removed, and allows additional application if the deadline is missed, even if there is no force majeure.
