TMK Article 27: Name/surname can be changed if there is a justified reason.

Justified Reasons

  • The name is embarrassing/a nickname
  • Difficulty in pronunciation
  • There are others with the same name
  • Social/religious reason
  • Gender change

Process

  1. Case in family court
  2. Witness statement
  3. Decision
  4. Civil Registration Office registration

Supreme Court 8. HD

8. HD accepts that name change requires "just cause".
