There are comprehensive regulations that protect the rights of working women during the birth process.
Maternity Leave (Labor Law Art. 74)
- Prenatal: 8 weeks
- Postnatal: 8 weeks
- Multiple pregnancy: 10 weeks before birth
- Total: 16 weeks paid
Breastfeeding Leave
- Breastfeeding leave 1.5 hours a day for 1 year starting from birth
Unpaid Leave
If the postpartum leave ends, the female worker may request unpaid leave for up to 6 months.
Part Time Work
The worker can take leave after birth. until the child's primary school age may request that the weekly working hours be rearranged on a partial-time basis (Labor Law Art. 13).
SGK Maternity Debt
Law No. 5510, article 41/1-a: The insured woman can borrow the unpaid leave periods before/after birth by paying premiums for up to 3 births. It is added to the insurance period for retirement.
Prohibition on Dismissal
Dismissal within the first 6 months after pregnancy or birth is a reason for bad faith compensation.
