Child Labor: Age Limit and Working Conditions

Labor Law Article 71: Child labor is subject to strict rules.

Age Limits

  • Under 15 years of age: employment prohibited (rule)
  • Limited light work for 14 years old (without hindering education)
  • 15-18 years old: limited hours in certain jobs

Prohibited Work

  • Heavy work
  • Dangerous work
  • Work harmful to health
  • Night work
  • Mining, construction

Working Hours

  • 14-15 years old: 7 hours/day, 35 hours/week
  • 15-18 years old: 8 hours/day, 40 hours/week
  • During training 2 hour/day

Right to Education

  • Compulsory basic education cannot be prevented
  • The employer adjusts working hours in accordance with the education
  • Training report is mandatory

Sanction

  • Administrative fine
  • Closure of the workplace (grave violation)
  • Criminal liability
  • Social responsibility to the family service interference

Supreme Court 9. HD

9. HD adopts that child labor rights must be "strictly protected" and that the employer will face heavy liability if education is prevented.
